Molise is a small, delightful, little-known region of the southern Adriatic.
Molise is a land where everything still has the "flavour" of times past: from stunning landscapes to folk traditions, from gastronomic specialities to community life, from the hospitality of the people to the unspoilt sea, from local craftsmanship (the bells of Agnone are well-renowned) to the silent villages in the hinterland.
Starting with the regional capital, Campobasso, with its evocative maze of ancient streets and the fifteenth-century Monforte Castle.
To Termoli, where the Mediterranean sunshine lights up the ancient walls built by Emperor Frederick and the massive sixteenth-century Castle jutting out into the sea.
Everywhere in Molise, nature seems to keep watch over history, preserving memories. As in the archaeological zone in Sepino, testament to the ancient Roman colony, and in the vicinity of Pietrabbondante where another archaeological site recalls the remote existence of the Sannites, the people who dared challenge the might of Rome.
And again in the province of Isernia (home to a beautiful cathedral and fourteenth-century fountain), where the ancient abbey of St. Vincenzo in Volturno rises solitary and majestic.
