Legal Status

ENIT – Italian National Tourist Board – is an economic public entity, pursuant to Article 16 of Decree Law No. 83 of 31 May 2014, converted with amendments by Law No. 106 of 29 July 2014. It carries out its functions and activities through its headquarters and peripheral offices.

ENIT’s activity is governed by Article 16 of Decree Law No. 83 of 31 May 2014, converted with amendments by Law No. 106 of 29 July 2014, by the articles of association and by other laws relating to private legal persons.

Functions

The Italian National Tourist Board, supervised by the Ministry of Tourism, adopts its own accounting and administrative regulations.

The Board performs all the functions and tasks attributed to it by law in the pursuit of its mission of promoting tourism. Among other things, it is responsible for:

  1. foreign promotion of the image of Italian tourism and the various types of tourism offered by Italy, as well as the integrated promotion of the tourist resources of the Regions, the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano and, through them, of the local authorities;
  2. developing national and international promotional and information strategies abroad, to support enterprises in marketing Italian tourism products, in connection with quality production in other economic and production sectors, culture and the environment, in implementation of the guidelines identified by the supervising Administration and also through the Tourism Policy Committee, in agreement with the Conference of the Regions and Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano;
  3. identifying, organising, promoting and marketing Italian tourism and cultural services;
  4. promoting the Italy trademark in the tourism sector;
  5. facilitating the marketing of food and wine products, typical local products and crafts in Italy and abroad;
  6. carrying out the activities assigned by law, the articles of association and regulations with particular use of digital media, technological platforms and the Internet through the management of the “Italia.it” portal, as well as any other communication tool deemed appropriate;
  7. carrying out and organising consultancy and assistance activities and services for the State, the Regions and the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano and for public and private bodies, including regional offices and agencies, by signing special agreements to promote and develop processes aimed at harmonising tourist hospitality and information services and also, subject to a fee, for promotional and advertising communication and public relations activities;
  8. implementing agreements and forms of collaboration with public Entities and with the Offices of the diplomatic-consular network of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, including the Institutes of Culture, in accordance with the provisions of specific memoranda of understanding with other offices of Italian representation abroad, and also pursuant to Article 1 of Law no. 56 of 31 March 2005.
