ENIT IN UK FOR WTM 20220

CULTURAL HOLIDAY FOR THE BRITISH IN ITALY

495 THOUSAND IN ITALY FOR FAMILY VISITS

OVER 100 MILLION EURO SPENT ON HOLIDAYS AT THE SEASIDE AND IN CITIES OF ART

TOURISM MINISTER DANIELA SANTANCHÉ: 'TOURISM GATEWAY TO PROMOTE MADE IN ITALY'

Italy remains steady at the top of ratings for international visitors. This is one of the data emerging from ENIT’s research on data from ISTAT, UNWTO and Bank of Italy that will be the focus of debate in the Italian National Tourist Board's panels at WTM in London from 7 to 9 November 2022. The event is considered a must for the tourism sector and the Italian National Tourist Board will promote itself with a stand of over 1700 square metres in partnership with the Italian Regions. During the World Travel Market, Italian and global stakeholders will discuss new trends and destinations. It is an opportunity for the tourism industry to meet and compare experiences. Great attention will be paid to the UK market, which every year moves over 100 million investments, especially for cultural holidays in cities of art and by the sea. Five regions lead the preferences of the British: Lombardy, Lazio, Tuscany, Veneto and Campania.

Positive data for Italy, which is registering growth from every country with revenue of 21.3 billion euro (+22.7% on 2020; -52.0% on 2019), with a market share that rose to 4.2% from 3.6% in 2020, taking the Bel Paese to fourth place on the global scale for revenue from international tourism. Spain's share also rose during the year (from 3.4% to 5.6%), while the USA's (from 13.3% to 11.4%) and Germany's (from 4.1% to 3.6%) declined.

According to UNWTO data, arrivals in the first seven months of the year reached 57% of pre-pandemic levels. Compared to the same period in 2021, international tourist arrivals almost tripled (+172%) between January and July 2022.

‘I express my great satisfaction for the high level of participation of Italian Regions, authorities and operators at the WTM in London, one of the most important international exhibitions on tourism, which allows us to position Italy at the centre of the world and to make people appreciate the variety and uniqueness of our products. Italy's strong presence at a major international initiative is part of the Government's and my mandate's strategy to promote Made in Italy in a synergic manner. Tourism, in all its forms, is the main key to achieving this goal. It is also an event that gives us the opportunity to address a market that is strategic for us and that highlights the commitment of the Ministry and ENIT to teaming up with operators and businesses in the promotion of the Italian tourism offer,' says Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè.

‘Travellers from the United Kingdom are, in fact, at the top of the list of foreign tourists who come to Italy to spend a holiday. They prefer to stay in hotels (10 million visitors equal to 73.5% of the total) but do not disdain holiday villages. What pushes the British to come to Italy are, first and foremost, the cultural attractions, followed by the beaches and the possibility of practising sports on holiday,' says ENIT AD Roberta Garibaldi.
