PRESS RELEASE
ENIT, MEETING IN ALBANIA ON SUSTAINABLE TOURISM
Meeting in Albania on sustainable tourism. The Italian National Tourist Board ENIT took part in the FESTA Forum in Tirana, organised by the Ministry for Tourism and the Environment of the Republic of Albania, in collaboration with the world Tourism Organization and with the support of EUSAIR, SASPAC, Interreg, GIZ Albania, UNDP Albania and RisiAlbania. The event was attended by 40 representatives from 40 countries, who took part in 7 themed sessions.
“We are delighted to have this opportunity not only for discussion but also to offer mutual support at international level regarding sustainable development policies. It is important to move forward together, and a single, shared vision of the collaboration strategy to be adopted marks a new step that will also improve the impact of tourist flows, by rationalising them”, explained ENIT CEO and President Ivana Jelinic.
“In the future, we will be focusing on a holistic approach to tourism, and on investments dedicated to young people and to strengthening infrastructures. Until now Italy has provided consistent support to sectors linked to sustainable tourism, regarding issues such as the responsible management of protected areas, the safeguarding and promotion of our natural assets and cultural heritage and support for local communities”, commented the Italian Ambassador in Tirana, Fabrizio Bucci.
The meeting shed light on overtourism and how it can be regulated, contemplating the possibility of a quota system for tourist flows and access to artistic and cultural heritage sites, as well as the promotion of less well-known areas.
