ENIT with ITA Airways launches the first Italy-New Delhi flagship flight. The first flight operated by ITA Airways connecting Rome Fiumicino to New Delhi, with the Airbus A330, has arrived in New Delhi with 100% capacity.

The new route is part of the strategy to promote tourism and the Italy brand around the world to boost a market of over one and a half billion potential long-haul, big spender travellers. Having a carrier capable of boosting the tourist offer and transport to Italy allows ENIT to implement incoming tourism and look towards new frontiers while at the same time involving sectors in an expansionary phase in India such as the film industry combined with tourism.

This is why ENIT CEO Ivana Jelinic met with important stakeholders in India, as well as exponents from Bollywood, the major Indian film industry, to lay the foundations for future productions dedicated to Made in Italy and with Italy as the protagonist.

The new connection will have three weekly flights, departing at 14:10 every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from Rome Fiumicino to New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony were Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer of ITA Airways and CEO of Volare, Tommaso Fumelli, ITA Airways Vice President of Sales in Italy, Pierluigi Di Palma, President of ENAC, Ivan Bassato, Chief Aviation Officer for Aeroporti di Roma and Federico Scriboni, Head of Aviation Business Development. Also present were ENIT CEO Ivana Jelinic, and Neena Malhotra, Indian Ambassador to Italy.

‘I am thrilled that Sistema Italia is developing growth and sharing strategies to strengthen the Italian brand in the eyes of the world. This flight marks a recovery that is a breath of fresh air for the sector, which is now looking ahead and opening up to new frontiers. The Indian market has a high spending capacity and is looking for exclusive events. Italy has all the elements to position itself as a natural reference point. The focus is on international competitiveness challenges that reposition Italy in a market with strong potential. This is a significant opportunity to increase tourism between the two countries,’ states Ivana Jelinic, ENIT CEO.

‘We are delighted to be able to inaugurate the ITA Airways Roma Fiumicino - New Delhi connections, the only direct flights between the capitals of the two countries,’ said Emiliana Limosani, Chief Commercial Officer of ITA Airways and CEO of Volare. ‘ITA Airways, with the opening of this new route for the transport of passengers and cargo between Italy and India, intends to further contribute to the cultural integration and development of the economic relationship between the two countries, which in recent years have developed a solid political and commercial partnership, with the presence of more than 600 Italian companies in India and with a bilateral interchange that reached a record value of more than 10 billion euros in 2021. We have thus added an important piece to our intercontinental network expansion project towards a fascinating destination and a market full of opportunities. Moreover, thanks to the flight from New Delhi to Rome, our Indian customers will be able to visit not only Italy but all of Europe with convenient connections from our Fiumicino hub,’ concluded the Chief Commercial Officer.

With the new intercontinental connection, Italy's national airline ITA Airways further expands its network to the Asian market and reaffirms the great work aimed at satisfying both the outbound and inbound needs of customers by bringing Indian passengers to Italy.

This intercontinental connection joins the seven which are already operated by ITA Airways with direct flights to New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Miami, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo and Tokyo. The expansion in the Asia market will continue in December with the opening of the new direct flight Rome Fiumicino - Malè, Maldives that will be operated by ITA Airways from 17 December 2022 to 15 April 2023, allowing Italian holidaymakers to choose the Maldives for their Easter holidays as well.
