EUROPEAN TOURISM SUMMIT IN ROME

MINISTRY OF TOURISM, ITALIAN NATIONAL TOURIST BOARD, AND EUROPEAN TRAVEL COMMISSION IN ROME TODAY TO STRENGTHEN ITALY’S ROLE IN EUROPE

Rome hosts a summit of the European Travel Commission with the Italian Ministry of Tourism and Italian National Tourist Board. Today, the Italian capital is hosting a meeting between top representatives of the European Travel Commission responsible for the promotion of Europe as a tourist destination with Tourism Minister Massimo Garavaglia, European Travel Commission Vice President Magda Antonioli, and ENIT CEO Roberta Garibaldi aimed at strengthening Italy's role in Europe.

Italy plays a pivotal role in outlining Europe’s guidelines for a future of sustainable and accessible tourism, with its 58 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, 4,908 cultural sites including museums, archaeological sites, monuments and ecomuseums open to the public, 357 of which are located in the Lazio region, while Rome is the city featuring the most cultural sites (121 in all).

The aim is to create an increasingly structured network for an integrated industry with common goals. Consolidation of still-uneven human and economic resources will be essential to ensure targeted investments and an increasingly attractive offer.

“ENIT is increasingly international in scope. The Italian National Tourist Board aims to effectively distribute European resources earmarked for tourism and to direct promotion towards even more targeted supply chain performance,” says ENIT CEO Roberta Garibaldi.

Founded in 1948, the European Travel Commission is a unique association in the travel industry, representing the National Tourism Organisations of European countries. With the aim of strengthening the sustainable development of Europe as a tourist destination, it has positioned itself at the forefront of the industry over the past decades, establishing its expertise and building partnerships in tourist areas based on promotion, market intelligence and the sharing of best practices.

"The European Travel Commission considers research a fundamental tool for developing marketing strategies and services. The Ministry of Tourism, ENIT, and the ETC together strengthen the image of Italy as a tourist destination for the non-European market,” comments ETC Vice-President Magda Antonioli. “Developing a unified vision of new tourism strategies will bring long-term benefits to the sector, with planning that will be able to take advantage of smarter and faster interoperability even at the decision-making level,” explains Maria Elena Rossi, Vice-President of the ETC Marketing Group and Marketing Director of ENIT.
