Friuli Venezia Giulia

From the Alps to the lagoon, Friuli Venezia Giulia is the perfect destination for cycling holidays enthusiasts: family-friendly slow itineraries to discover the villages, traditions and gastronomy, pedalling across the region’s “sea of vineyards” to taste its renowned wines and enjoy nature riding your mountain bike up and down the stunning hills and mountains.

Cycling competitions enthusiasts can take on the challenge of climbing the same slopes used for the Giro d’Italia:

  1. the Mount Zoncolan climb from Sutrio or from Ovaro;
  2. the wonderful Montasio plateau climb;
  3. the Piancavallo climb;
  4. the Cividale del Friuli - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - to Castelmonte climb;
  5. the short but spectacularly scenic climb up Monte di Ragogna, near San Daniele del Friuli, offering breathtaking views of the Tagliamento River.

In 2023, the Giro d’Italia is taking the athletes to Monte Lussari (1,770 meters) in a time trial starting from Tarvisio, that will see them follow parts of the Alpe Adria cycle path into the Val Saisera, where cyclists will face a 900-metre climb over just 7 kilometres, ending at the Monte Lussari shrine.
