ITALIAN TOURISM AT THE G20
THE RECOVERY OF THE TOURIST INDUSTRY, THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE FUTURE HUMAN CAPITAL OF TOURISM, AND THE ROLE OF LOCAL COMMUNITIES AND SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES ARE AT THE CENTRE OF THE PROCEEDINGS.
REPRESENTING ITALIAN TOURISM IS ENIT CEO ROBERTA GARIBALDI: “HARMONISING INTERNATIONAL STRATEGIES FOR A COORDINATED RELAUNCH.”
ENIT CEO Roberta Garibaldi represents the Italian government at the G20 tourism round table, which opened today in Bali and will end on Monday with the ministerial meeting.
At the heart of the work, under Indonesia's Presidency, is support for recovery after the pandemic in a context marked by environmental and geopolitical challenges, women's empowerment, the accelerating green transition, training, digitisation, over tourism, climate change, quality of employment, and opportunities for micro and small enterprises and local communities.
There are five key concepts for recovery: innovation, digitisation, sustainability, shared responsibility, and synergies between the creative economy and tourism.
"The Indonesian presidency has developed the issues that Italy placed at the centre of the global agenda with last year's G20 Tourism summit in Rome. We are concerned with harmonising international strategies to meet the enormous challenges facing tourism, despite the good numbers this year: from environmental challenges to the dramatic increase in energy prices,” says Garibaldi.
As part of the G20 decision-making process, Working Groups comprised of experts and ministries responsible for each specific issue, are charged with conducting an in-depth analysis of many issues of international relevance.
The Working Group on Tourism was created in 2020, with a focus on the key role the sector plays globally in terms of economic growth, job creation, the preservation of natural and cultural resources, and the achievement of sustainable development goals. In the context of the current crisis caused by COVID-19, the group will focus its activities on coordinating and sharing policies and measures for a rapid recovery of international tourism.
