ISRAELI TRAVELLERS SPENT OVER 109 MILLION EUROS IN ITALY BEFORE THE PANDEMIC

Until March 30, Italy will be participating in IMTM, the main trade fair dedicated to the tourist industry in the Eastern Mediterranean being held in Israel, with the aim of creating a strong network of partnerships. ENIT and the Bel Paese are present with a 72-square-metre stand illustrating the Regions of Italy, to promote the nation’s attractions and highlight tourism products in 2022. Minister of Tourism Massimo Garavaglia and ENIT CEO Roberta Garibaldi were present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “Italy is very attractive to Israeli travellers. In the year before the pandemic, Israelis spent over 109 million euros on visits to Italy. These data encourage us to expand and further personalise our offer,” says ENIT President Giorgio Palmucci. According to research by ENIT’s Study Office based on data from Banca d’Italia, tourist arrivals from Israel numbered 222,000, for a total of over 944,000 nights. About 42% come on holiday, with the main reason being to visit cities of art (32.4%); 6.6% come to visit relatives and friends and 8.5% come for business reasons, mainly for conferences (6.2%). Central Italy is the preferred geographical area: 70.4% of travellers are headed there and 50% of their tourist expenditure is concentrated in that area. Hotels and holiday villages are the preferred types of accommodation, 38.5% of the total nights are spent in these establishments. Overnight stays with relatives and friends are also widespread (24.7% of nights). 40.5% of travellers are aged between 25 and 34, followed by the 35-44 age group (32%). The preferred period for visiting Italy is between July and October: July and August bring in 23.1% of travellers, a share that rises to 35.4% between September and October. The average length of stay is four nights for an average daily expenditure of 115 euros.
