PRESS RELEASE

MINISTRY OF TOURISM AND ENIT NOMINATE ITALY TO HOST THE WORLD'S 50 BEST RESTAURANTS IN 2024

After hosting the international Eurovision contest and the UN Global Conference on Wine Tourism to be held in Alba from 19 to 22 September, the Ministry of Tourism and ENIT are now aiming to host the most hotly-anticipated event on the world food and wine scene, the awards for The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.

Italy, with Piedmont and Turin, is in pole position for the 2024 edition of the “restaurant Oscars,” awarded by experts and critics after visiting the finest establishments.

“This is a global event, that fits with the plan we share with Minister of Tourism Massimo Garavaglia,” says ENIT CEO Roberta Garibaldi, “and that will strengthen the role of Italian cuisine in the world and the identity and recognition of Italy on a global stage. Together with the Ministry of Tourism, ENIT has established specific food and wine activities, and this is a major step forward in energizing and spotlighting the excellent work of our tourism operators and the Sistema Italia. We aim to host this event in partnership with the Region of Piedmont, which is an excellent point of reference.”

It was during the presentation of the Global Conference on Wine Tourism, getting in touch with the event organizers in London, that the Italian Ministry of Tourism, the President of the Region of Piedmont and ENIT announced Italy’s candidacy and the idea of bringing the “50 Best” to Turin.

The Italian presence grew notably in the 2022 edition, in numbers as well as in perceptions, thanks to chefs like Riccardo Camanini, the Alajmos, Niko Romito, Mauro Uliassi, and Enrico Crippa (of the three-star Piazza Duomo in Alba and Norbert Niederkofler).
