Shopping Tourism in Lazio

Rome is the ideal place for shopping lovers. All the most important high fashion brands and the most famous jewelers in the world have their own shops between Via del Corso and Via del Babuino, between gorgeous Via Condotti, Via Frattina and Via Borgognona, culminating in Piazza di Spagna.

Walking towards Piazza Venezia, in the area between Campo Marzio and piazza Colonna, you can find classic English-style clothing, hats of all styles and men’s fashion shops.

Artisan shops are near magnificent Piazza Navona where, at Christmas time, the traditional sweets market takes place.

In the Vatican area, along Via Cola di Rienzo, Via Ottaviano and Via Candia there are plenty of fashion and shoe shops as well as household item shops and specialty food shops.

Some historic shops on Via del Portico d'Ottavia in the Ghetto are not to be missed, with unique assortments of porcelain, glasses, cutlery and silverware and anything else to embellish the table.

Via Giulia and Via Dei Coronari attract antiques and art enthusiasts, while in Via del Babuino and Via Margutta, there are art galleries and antique shops that remind us of the many artist’s studios that painters used to keep until the 1960s.

In Lazio, the Outlets are the right place to find great deals. In the Fashion District in Valmontone, in the McArthurGlen in Castel Romano and in the Soratte Outlet in Sant'Oreste you can find a wide choice of top national and international fashion brands and large spaces for refreshment.

In Sabina, every first Sunday of the month, the market of antiques, crafts, modern antiques, and collectables takes place, with sellers of ceramics and textiles from every corner of Lazio.

At the Erboristeria of the Monastery in Farfa, it is possible to choose food products such as herbal teas, liqueurs, honey and jams and cosmetic products, including ointments.

Take advantage of the opportunity to go to the Osteria Nuova market fair, held on every first Sunday of the month, which renews the tradition of medieval fairs with meetings and exchanges: clothing, household utensils and decorative objects, alongside livestock, tools and agricultural machinery, gastronomic specialties such as the famous Sabina PDO extra virgin olive oil, honey, cherries and porchetta.

In Ciociaria there are numerous artisan activities: the production of furniture decorated with ornamental motifs, hand-inlaid wooden objects, the working of wrought iron and copper.

However, the truly iconic craft items from Ciociaria are the “ciocie”, rudimentary shoes worn by Ciociaria farmers that can be found in any small vintage shops.

In Tuscia, the art of ceramics has a centuries-old tradition still rooted today both in Viterbo and in the small villages where the workshops of local artisans produce objects of originality and creativity every day with passion and dedication.

In the Agro Pontino, vases and ornamental objects are the red gold of Latina, where the artistic material par excellence is copper. A prominent place also belongs to the art of embroidery and to the refined mastery of the embroiderers of Sezze and Spigno Saturnia who as ever-faithful keepers of the ancient tradition handed down by their ancestors, continue to create highly sought-after and appreciated articles.
