Shopping Tourism in Tuscany

Shopping in Tuscany is not just about taking home a souvenir or a memory of your trip: it is a complete experience for all tastes! From the jewellers of Ponte Vecchio, to the international and exclusive boutiques, to the mal, where you can find incredible bargains for both fashion and home purchases; from the traditional local markets, full of life and flavors, to the natural shopping centers for "km 0" purchases, which allow you to discover the richness and variety of traditional, PDO and PGI productions of Tuscan territories. Not to mention craftsmanship... a "magic word" and the secret of every production, starting with fashion.

Salvatore Ferragamo and Guccio Gucci, founders of two of the most famous maisons in the world, opened their Florentine ateliers as leather craftsmen... Even today, in the shop windows of Via de' Tornabuoni, the most exclusive and elegant street in Florence, you can admire the creations of shoemakers, leather craftsmen and tailors. A stone's throw from the World Heritage sites, creations that inspire style and elegance all over the world coexist with niche handicraft creations, underlining that in Tuscany handicraft creativity is born where there is culture and artistic tradition.

The second keyword for shopping in Tuscany is "materials". The exceptional raw materials found in the region have given rise to true production districts that characterize the production of villages and entire territorial areas. The simplicity of clay, stone, glass and marble, to name but a few of these high quality materials, combined with creativity, aesthetic sense and expertise, are transformed into unique objects. This is why Montelupo Fiorentino, on the banks of the Arno River, has been using clay for its ceramic creations since the 14th century. Similarly, Casentino cloth is still woven with a special technique that responds to the need to combat the cold winters of the mountain areas where it is produced. The list of handicrafts is long and continues with crystal from Colle Val d'Elsa, straw hats from Signa, alabaster from Volterra, fabrics from Prato, terracotta from Impruneta, marble from Carrara, gold from Arezzo, leather goods, shoes and clothing from the Florentine and Empolese areas, and perfumes from Florence.

Artisan productions that become an opportunity to visit the territory and to have a unique experience: to have access to forges and workshops, to talk to the craftsmen, to choose with them the object that impressed us the most, or to design one from scratch and to witness its realization in person... well, this is certainly not something you do every day! Selecting the blend of essences to create a unique perfume that bears your name, choosing the shape and fabric of a particular home accessory to best suit your home, designing your own jewelry or creating it for someone you love. This is where Made in Italy becomes Made in Tuscany: whether it is the latest international fashion trends or the most elegant table setting... whether it is a good bottle or a hand-woven straw hat: this is Tuscany!
