WORLD TOURISM DAY: THE ITALIAN CHAMPION SOFIA GOGGIA PROMOTES ENIT
THE ITALIAN NATIONAL TOURIST BOARD LAUNCHES THE CAMPAIGN “PENSIAMO A CIO’ CHE AMIAMO” (RETHINK WHAT WE LOVE) AND THE HASHTAG #RETHINKINGTOURISM WITH THE ITALIAN REGIONS
Rethinking tourism is the slogan of the campaign launched by ENIT for World Tourism Day, engaging the country’s regions and art cities and bringing them together to present the destinations from original perspectives. This effort has required months, with Italy’s finest destinations being illustrated from the perspective of those who live here every day, and above all from the point of view of those who love Italy and have learned to uncover its unfamiliar aspects. Today the ENIT channels are also packed with content, with stories on a theme designed to enhance the nation’s unexplored assets, with the hidden treasures of its art cities at the top of the list. A landing page has been activated to illustrate the day’s events and to bring together all the articles created based on input from the regions and the art cities (https://www.italia.it/en/world-tourism-day-2022).
Also featured on video will be Sofia Goggia, inviting visitors to “go Italian” on their travels, with special tips and posts (also on ENIT’s international profiles) dedicated to the beaches in the bel paese and the project to “sign up” to protect them, as well as the Best Destination award Italy took at the Times Awards.

The idea running through the whole campaign is to “rethink what we love”: on World Tourism Day, the whole world comes together to think of how we can make the sector more sustainable and inclusive, and Italy too has sought to do so in its own way, to safeguard the country’s landscape, art and culture, as well as accessibility.
Italy boasts 58 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, more than any other country in the world, with 45 of those listed as World Cultural Heritage Sites. A further 31 are candidates to join the list, offering promise for the future. The country also boasts 8300 km of coastline, spectacular mountains and rolling hills, as well as navigable lakes and rivers and a rich array of National and Regional Parks. Italy’s art cities are absolute masterpieces, as is the stunning variety of little villages dotted all over the country.
2022 is an important year for Italian tourism, which has just received an accolade of inestimable value: for the sixth year running, the Times Award for Best Destination has gone to Italy, with half a million readers of the prestigious UK newspaper voting for the bel paese. In addition to the Best Destination Country award, Italy also took home the Best Hotel award, which went to the Grand Hotel at Villa Feltrinelli, on Lake Garda.
“World Tourism Day is an invitation to reflect on the fact that each time we choose to travel, our decision has a bearing we are unaware of on the economy and the world. It is no coincidence that ENIT is currently engaged in such a reflection in Bali, where ministers representing all the G20 countries have come together to discuss the future of tourism. And this is not just because tourism accounts for over 10% of GDP worldwide and more than 13% in Italy, but also because it regards our cultural heritage, which influences individuals and how they live.
Best wishes to those who travel, and those who make travel possible. Shaping the future, or simply being a part of it, requires passion, and sharing. Travel is an activity that makes us all less foreign to one another, also creating a bond with lands that are not our own; it takes us beyond the borders of our everyday lives, creating a mix of enthusiasm and bewilderment that requires an undertaking to share, as we are doing today. The steps Italian tourism will be taking in the future will be increasingly focused on guaranteeing high-performing, easily accessible hospitality, allowing visitors to go home with an experience based no longer merely on admiring places, but on discovering their secrets and establishing a closer relationship with the people who live there. The results obtained so far are encouraging, and we must endeavour to improve the experience of travellers with an increasingly customised, green, innovative and identity-focused offer”, said ENIT CEO Roberta Garibaldi.
