Even in the 106th edition of the Giro d'Italia, scheduled from 6 to 28 May, Basilicata will be a protagonist. In fact, not only will it be the arrival and departure site, but Basilicata will also be the southernmost region of Italy in the Giro.
It will arrive in Basilicata for the third stage on 8 May, when the Carovana Rosa will set off from Vasto to reach the finish line in Melfi for a total of 210 kilometres. The next day it will leave from Venosa to reach Laceno Lake after covering 184 kilometres.
This will be an opportunity to promote the Vulture regional Park with the extraordinary scenery of the lakes of Monticchio, the cities of Melfi ( the city of Frederick II) and Venosa ( the city of Horace) while passing through the vineyards of the ancient volcano Vulture from which the famous Aglianico wine originates.
