Favignana and Palermo in the Spotlight in Sweden: ENIT Press Trip Showcases Sicily in Vagabond

As part of its activities to promote Italy as a destination in international markets, ENIT S.p.A. – Stockholm Office has consolidated its strategy to strengthen the Italy brand in foreign markets through first-hand storytelling of destinations and territories, made possible by collaboration with authoritative international media outlets. The Swedish journalist Malin Maria Hefvelin, accompanied by photographer Linus Mattias, has showcased Sicily as a destination capable of combining nature, culture, gastronomy and authenticity.

The trip, which took place from 29 April to 6 May 2026, focused on Favignana and Palermo, with five nights spent on the Egadi island and two in the Sicilian capital. The itinerary was designed to highlight the destination’s different facets: from Favignana’s Mediterranean landscapes to traditions linked to fishing and tuna processing, from local products to culinary experiences, and from historical heritage to markets and the vibrant urban life of Palermo.

The editorial content produced for Vagabond, one of Sweden’s leading travel magazines, presents the experience through an extensive 12-page feature entitled “Italien utan filter” – “Italy Without Filters”. The article explores western Sicily, highlighting a territory to be discovered at a slower pace. In Favignana, cycling becomes one of the preferred ways to explore the island, among tuff quarries, crystal-clear waters and rural landscapes, while the former Florio Tuna Factory recounts the history of tuna fishing and the community’s deep connection with the Mediterranean.

Considerable attention is also devoted to food, wine and local products. Trapani-style couscous, tuna, bottarga, caponata, cannoli, Sicilian wines, olive oil and locally sourced ingredients become an integral part of the travel narrative. The feature also highlights experiences involving farms and accommodation facilities committed to using local products, showcasing a tourism model that values identity, sustainability and longer stays on the island.

The trip concludes in Palermo, portrayed through its contrasts, monumental heritage and, above all, the vibrant atmosphere of its historic markets – Ballarò, Capo and Vucciria – where street food and everyday life offer a privileged perspective on the city. Alongside the travel narrative, the feature also includes a practical guide to western Sicily, with information on transport connections, the best time to visit, accommodation, restaurants and experiences, helping turn inspiration into a concrete motivation to travel.
