EU WeMed Na_TOUR - Pilot Trips

The first Pilot Trips under one of the most relevant actions of the EU WeMed Na_TOUR project, organised for school groups from partner countries Spain, Portugal, Italy and Mauritania, have been completed with great success. In May, Italian students travelled to Palma de Mallorca in Spain, while the Spaniards went to Grado in Italy and Portuguese students travelled to Estarreja in Portugal.

Slightly cooler weather is expected for the pilot trip involving Mauritanian students in Mauritania, The last of 4 sustainable journeys to/from coastal and marine destinations in the project partner countries.

For all, full immersion in meetings and activities with sustainability at the centre. A meaningful experience to encourage today's youth to appreciate/respect the environment even more and to travel responsibly in future.

Accompanied by their teachers, the students participated in information/training sessions and workshops. They met with representatives of local organisations, carried out beach clean-up activities, and explored and learnt about the different ecosystems and habitats of unique areas. They also explored concepts, good practices and behaviours to reduce waste and environmental pollution. Everything was extensively documented with photos, drawings, slides, interviews, reports and writings.

Thanks to this experience, the students learnt much more about the importance of biodiversity and how necessary it is to preserve it, and also broadened their knowledge in the field of sustainable tourism and eco-friendly travel, especially in coastal and maritime destinations.
