Explore Italy in the saddle: discover cycle touring and sustainable tourism along the roads of the Giro d'Italia 2023

Cycle touring and a close eye on sustainability are two rapidly growing trends in Italian tourism. There’s no better way to step right into the beauty of the Italian landscape than exploring the country on two wheels. The contribution of the regions touched upon by the prestigious Giro d'Italia 2023 cycling race has given ENIT the opportunity to bring together a wide range of cycle touring experiences, ideal for both cycling enthusiasts and those who fancy a more relaxed approach to the experience, using e-bikes, just like the riders in the Giro-E 2023 race.

Cycling allows for a more genuine, responsible visitor experience, offering the opportunity to fully enjoy the surrounding landscape, sustainably and at a gentle pace. It is the essence of slow tourism.

Thanks to the advent of pedal-assisted e-bikes, cycle touring has become accessible to many more cycling aficionados, or visitors just looking for a new experience, offering the chance to enjoy a holiday or a day out in the saddle without being particularly fit.

Pedalling along Italy’s roads offers the chance to visit some enchanting places, from major tourist attractions to places off the beaten track, cycling from the mountains to the sea and through delightful little villages and art cities.

Discover the regions the Giro d'Italia 2023 will be passing through and the cycle touring opportunities they have to offer, with routes suitable for all levels of fitness and for all interests. The itineraries range from cycle paths in towns and cities to mountain trails, as well as panoramic routes along the coast and others that wind their way through the greenery of vineyards and olive groves. In addition, cycle touring facilities and services, such as cycle hire, assistance points and bike-friendly hospitality facilities guarantee visitors a comfortable, quality travel experience.

Giro-E 2023

Once again this year, ENIT and the Ministry of Tourism will be playing an active part in Giro-E, with team Italia.it.

First held in 2019, Giro-E is a unique cycle touring experience that takes place along the roads of the Giro d'Italia. The use of e-bikes allows cyclists with an average level of training to tackle the climbs normally reserved for the champions. One of the aims of the Giro-E race is to raise awareness regarding sustainable mobility and environmental issues, with a “Sustainability Village” in the start cities.
